Greg Sarris: Keynote, Geography of Hope 2017
In this video, Greg Sarris, Chief of the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria, gives a powerful keynote address that offers a history lesson about the coastal tribes of this region and about his own ancestry (34:38 min). Greg raises important questions about colonization—particularly the question of how we begin to deal with the narrative of colonization that is systemic. We recently had a conversation with the Graton Tribal Council, offering support in transforming the collapsed Kule Loklo roundhouse into an “education and healing center” that would strengthen the National Park Service’s interpretative programs in Point Reyes. We hope this project acknowledges and updates the history of the Coast Miwok.
